[SEAN-CSO 2026 WEBINAR] Bringing Games and AI Together for Learning Excellence

Games and AI offer new possibilities for designing meaningful learning experiences. The final SEAN-CSO webinar explores how game-based learning and Kummara’s 3R framework can support practical and engaging P/CVE initiatives.
[SEAN-CSO 2026 WEBINAR] Bringing Games and AI Together for Learning Excellence

Artificial intelligence is creating new possibilities for how people access information, develop ideas, and approach complex challenges. For P/CVE practitioners, these capabilities can support different aspects of their work, from analysing online narratives to developing practical solutions. However, using technology effectively involves more than understanding what a tool can do. It also requires helping people develop the skills and judgement needed to apply it in practice.

Throughout the SEAN-CSO 2026 webinar series, we have explored how AI can support counter-narrative development, the detection of extremist narratives, and practical decision-making. The final webinar introduces another perspective by examining how games and AI can work together to create meaningful learning experiences.

Why Games Matter in the Age of AI

Games offer more than entertainment. When designed around clear learning objectives, they allow participants to explore situations, make decisions, and reflect on the outcomes of their choices. Rather than simply receiving information, participants can test ideas, consider alternative perspectives, and learn through experience.

This approach is particularly relevant to P/CVE, where practitioners navigate complex social issues that require contextual understanding and careful judgement. Games can create opportunities to practise decision-making in structured environments, helping participants examine different responses before applying their learning to real situations.

As AI becomes more accessible, critical thinking remains essential. AI can generate information and suggest possible solutions, but people still need to assess whether its outputs are relevant and appropriate. Games can provide opportunities to practise this evaluation, making learning more interactive without removing the need for human judgement.

How Games and AI Can Support P/CVE Initiatives

Games and AI offer complementary capabilities. Games provide a structure for interaction and decision-making, while AI can support the development of scenarios, learning materials, and other resources.

For example, a learning activity could invite participants to assess fictional online narratives and consider possible responses. AI might help prepare variations of the scenario, while the game encourages participants to examine available information, explain their reasoning, and discuss the consequences of different decisions.

The objective is not to let AI determine the correct response, but to help participants practise evaluating information and considering different perspectives. However, the effectiveness of this approach depends on clear learning objectives, relevant scenarios, and careful review of AI-generated materials. Adding technology alone does not guarantee meaningful learning.

What the Kummara 3R Framework Brings to AI Optimisation

Developing useful learning experiences requires understanding the problem before selecting a solution. Kummara’s 3R framework, Reframe, Rethink, and Refine, offers a way to approach this process. Reframe encourages practitioners to reconsider the problem before choosing an AI tool. Rethink invites them to explore alternative approaches and consider how games or AI could address the identified need. Refine focuses on testing and improving solutions through feedback, observation, and evaluation.

Applied to learning design, these steps help practitioners focus on the intended outcomes rather than the technology itself. They can identify what participants need to learn, explore different ways to support that learning, and improve activities based on what works in practice.

Bringing Games and AI Together for Learning Excellence

Effective learning involves more than participation and engagement. It also requires considering whether participants develop a stronger understanding of an issue, improve their ability to evaluate information, and apply what they have learned.

Games can provide opportunities to practise and reflect, while AI can support the development of learning resources and activities. Frameworks such as Kummara’s 3R offer an additional way to approach design and improvement. Together, these elements can support more purposeful learning experiences when they respond to clear objectives and the needs of practitioners.

What Will You Explore?

The final SEAN-CSO webinar will explore why games matter in the age of AI, how games and AI can support P/CVE initiatives, and how Kummara’s 3R framework can contribute to AI optimisation. The session will also consider what bringing these elements together means for developing practical and engaging learning experiences.
